For the April 2016 issue of Condo Living magazine, I designed a three-page editorial layout profiling the Altadore 36 condo development in Calgary. The builder supplied a collection of interior and exterior photos/renders, and I selected and edited the strongest images to anchor the article and highlight the modern style of the units. The article itself was provided by the magazine’s editor, and my goal was to create a clean, engaging spread that pulled readers in through strong visuals and well-placed pull quotes.
Working within Condo Living’s style guide, I followed their required typography and text sizing while choosing colours, pull quotes, and the overall visual flow. The layout was built in Adobe InDesign, with all photo adjustments completed in Photoshop. I worked closely with both the editor and the Art Director to refine text flow and ensure all mandatory elements, such as the “Fast Facts” sidebar, were incorporated without compromising the design. When content ran long or didn’t fit cleanly, I coordinated rewrites or line cuts with the editor to keep everything balanced within the three-page constraint.
The main challenge in the project was fitting a substantial amount of text and imagery into a limited space while maintaining an appealing visual hierarchy. By carefully planning the pacing of images, pull quotes, and sidebars, the final result delivered a clean, modern layout that effectively showcased the development. The article went to print without revisions and aligned seamlessly with the magazine’s established visual identity.
